In the newspaper

The newspaper was at the first T-ball game of the season and they got this picture of Riley running to home base. He is loving T-ball this year. If you look really close you can see his coach, aka dad, in the background. The full article is linked below if you want to check it out!

A NEW FAUCET

I finally broke down and bought us a new kitchen faucet. Our old one was just that....really super old! And to make matters worse it has been leaking under the handle for quite some time. While Scott was away to the High School Senior Party I decided to try installing this baby myself. And after a call to my dad to find out how to turn OFF the water I was on my way..... (I wondered if I should even begin if I couldn't figure out that first part!)

Well, luckily I made it through turning off the water and I was on to getting the old faucet off. I didn't think about taking a picture of the old faucet. But, here's the new one! I think it's great looking. Our sink's a little old, but it looks tons better than it did before!!!

My all time favorite tool!!!! Without this basin wrench I NEVER would have gotten this new faucet on. It was a serious life saver. Get one of these if you ever replace your faucet, you will LOVE it!

Oh man, my picture is not cooperating and is sideways. Here's the new water hoses coming down. The old ones where copper pipes.

And here's clear up at the top where the faucet is screwed into place. This is why I love that basin wrench. No other tool would have fit up there to tighten everything.

I guess I do have to say that when I got finished we realized that behind the faucet where the sink meets the counter is a little loose, so the new faucet moves a tad when you turn the water on and off with the lever. Someday I'm sure we consider getting some other things (sink, counters, etc.) replaced. For now it will just have to stay a little wiggly!

Now onto other projects like sanding the corners of the walls I've been trying to fix and then painting......

LUCDA

Jaycee has LOVED going to pre-school this past school year. He has learned so much. Every day the first thing they have to do is hang up their coats and wash their hands.

Then they head back to the classroom and sign in by writing their names. Jaycee is left handed (so far the first left hander of our little fam) and likes to grip his pencil like a cave-man! He has been writing his name for quite awhile by himself. It's fun to watch them learn how to do those kind of things on their own.

Jaycee really has loved being in school. He was always happy to go and never was sad to be dropped off! He looked forward to meeting with his friends to play and being with the teachers to read and play.

The yellow shirt he is wearing they tie-dyed at school one of the last days. What a fun pre-school!!

Haircuts......almost a buzz!

Over the weekend we did a little haircutting (or rather I cut) that was a little over-due. First up was Riley. His hair tends to grow the slowest, besides Dannon's, and wasn't looking all that bad. But, since I do my families haircuts in one sitting, he got it done anyways.
So silly!

Next came babeo! This was his first experience getting his hair cut.
He NEEDED one badly!!!! He was so squirmy and hair was stuck to his face because it was slimmy from the tears and stuff that comes out of your nose when you cry hard. Scott tried helping to hold him down, and then I ended up football holding him with one arm and buzzing with the other. We both looked like the hairy monster when it was over.
The shirt is true! He looks so cute!

And the back......don't mind the spots that don't look perfect. As I said, he was SQUIRMY!
Ah, and now we wait a few months till the next round.
Maybe this summer they will all sport the bald look.....

Emery's 1st BDay

Emery's first birthday was the beginning of this month. I can't believe he has already been a year. Time has gone by so fast. He is such a happy little boy. He loves to smile and laugh. He still sucks on two of his fingers. He is STILL crawling.....which I don't mind not having another walker yet! He likes to be wherever the brothers and sister are, including outside. He is still a momma's boy, although slowly preferring dad when he's home!!! He is my little sweetheart.

Here's his cake. It was Funfetti with Funfetti Chocolate Frosting (Riley helped me pick it out). The candles were put in by Riley, the middle ones, and Jaycee, the ones off to the left!

Not sure how lovely that looked!

Riley also helped pick out all of Emery's little presents. He had a fun time picking them out. A soccer sippy cup, Gerber milk drinks, and a bath turtle.

So, Emery REALLY liked his cake. He first started by picking at the frosting, then after I dumped out the cake onto his tray, he picked it up and started eating. Surprisingly, he didn't make that big of a mess. Most of it ended up in his mouth. He managed to down two peices!!

This was after his first peice. He kept looking in the bowl to find more!

The turtle! He enjoys putting it in his mouth during bath time!

Sweet Dreams

Dannon and Emery share a room. One night we had put them in bed for the night. For the next 15 minutes or so there was a lot of noise coming from the room, and then silence. As I walked in to check on them I found out what was with all the commosion. Dannon had turned on the lights and decided it was a good time to pull out the dolls. Either that or the dolls were supposed to make them sleep better. Apperently Emery needed more than one doll. She must have kept throwing them in.

I'm afraid this is just the beginning of the times he will get to play dolls.

Shoveling Snow

Not exactly sure which time in the last couple of weeks we were out shoveling the snow, but it was one of the days it snowed (there have been more than one). Jaycee and Dannon like to play in the snow while I labor over the driveway. They climb up the mountain of snow and slide down....belly style, and the original sliding seems to be the popular ways of getting down. I know it's almost the middle of March, but the snow is still pretty fun!
Well, as I was finishing up I happened to walk past Dannon.....

So totally tired!

Here's Jaycee

And here's our yard that is FULLY covered and will be till June.
For those that are super sad they have no snow right now:

I know you are jealous!!!!
(that pile is as high as the garbage can)

Riley's 1st Wrestling Meet

Riley decided he wanted to try Little League Wrestling this year. So far they have had only one practice and today was his first wrestling meet. I thought he would be really nervous and decide he didn't really want to wrestle, but he was excited. For warm up he just kept running circles around the mat. He did pretty well for his first time, winning his first out of three matches.

He had a scrap on his wrist that we taped over.

After awhile Dannon got a little tired.
Riley during his 2nd match of the day. This little kid Riley wrestled had the head lock technique down to a tee.

Riley got this really great participation medal that he's pretty proud of!

Grandparents Day

The month of February has been Grandparets Appreciation Day at both Riley and Jaycee's schools. Being that both sets of grandparents have to drive in to town to visit, not all of them were able to make it for these days. The first Grandparents day was Valentines Day, the 14th, at Riley's school. Grandma Kohler came up and went to lunch with Riley. They also went on a tour of the school, the kids sang songs, met the principle (Mr. Brown), and played for a recess. Riley really had a great time with Grandma coming.
The next day, the 15, was Jaycee's Grandparents Dinner with his school. The dinner was held down at the Machine Shop, which was a good thing, because there was a huge turn out that evening. We were lucky to have Grandma and Grandpa Kohler come to Evanston to go to the dinner with us. We ate pulled pork sandwiches, salads, chips, cookies, corn, and drank punch and pop. After dinner we played in the bouncy houses......or rather waited in line and then played in the bouncy house!! We did a little fishing at the fishing booth and got bubbles. We came back to the house afterwards for a little more fun....reading books, watching Mater, and playing before Grandma and Grandpa had to leave. It was a fun few days!!!!

For those that have snow......and everyone else!!

Louie and his wife are listening to the radio when they hear the weather report: "A snow emergency has been declared. You must park your cars on the odd-numbered side of the street." So Louie gets up and moves his car.
Two days later--same thing. "A snow emergency has been declared," blares the radio. "Park your cars on the even-numbered side of the street." Louise gets up and does what he's told.
Three days later: "There will be a foot of snow today. Park your cars on the....," and then the power goes out.
"What should I do?" a confused Louie asks his wife.
"This time," she says, "why don't you just leave the car in the garage?"

Scott's 31st Birthday

Scott turned 31 this month and now he's an old man!!!! I'm afraid it wasn't very eventful for him. We had leftovers for dinner, and I wished that was the end of my slacking.......I was out of butter for the cake. He ended up with a pan of brownies instead. Nothing like making my man feel special. We did however, have a good time singing Happy Birthday and being together. Pretty sure all in all it ended up being good day!!!!! Love you Scott.

Interior Decorating Ideas

We are hoping to be getting something to put the new TV on. As fun as the coffee table is for setting the TV and players on, it's gotta go. The only problem is that I can't decide what to get to replace it and then where to put it. Corner unit, or center unit......Armoire, or TV stand???? I can't decide what would look best. Take a look at the pictures (ignoring the mess) and tell me what you think!!!! What would you do, and how would you rearrange the room?

Now on to the 2nd of many things that need a helping hand, the kitchen. I've been wanting to paint in here for quite awhile. The kitchen is pretty outdated, but not really sure updating ALL of it will be do-able. The thing I'm trying to decide on for starters is color (I was thinking maybe a green, but open to any new ideas). Would you paint this wall here the same shade or a little darker than the rest of the room. We are wanting to take down the trim and put up white trim along the bottom and maybe along the top, so the middle trim will be gone. The only other worry I have is how to transition to the rest of the house. Will I have to paint the front room (right next to the kitchen) the same color? Could I leave it white?
Once again, I can't decide on what to do with it. Any ideas or advice on what you think would be so helpful and awesome. Thanks!!!!!!!!

And there was snow

We got more snow today and it was a pretty good storm.......
Check it out!!

This is out out front door. We live across the street from the church. You can make out the church, but it's pretty blury for being so close.
(pictures taken about 4:30pm)

And here's out the back door. The deck had previously almost totally melted before it snowed today. Of course the lawn has many layers of snow underneath the new.....as is life in Evanston. Snow's a given, I'm learning to just accept it's fate!!

So Big!!

Emery is getting SO big. Ok, maybe not HUGE, but has sure picked up a few new tricks. He can now pull himself up to just about everything. He also can get himself into the sitting position all on his own. He cries a lot less, and laughs a lot more. He has gained a newfound patience for the brothers and sister......I guess he feels he has to with the amount of times he gets picked up and moved by Riley and Jaycee. Recently his first, and only, tooth popped through. He is still a momma's boy and gives the best kisses.

Found This

Ok, so I know I'm a little slow getting things posted after they happen, but I just ran across these Halloween pictures. As you can tell 4 months ago we had a fabulous Halloween!!!

The girl I used to be

She came tonight, as I sat alone
The girl I used to be.
And she gazed at me with her earnest eyes
And questioned reproachfully:
Have you forgotten the many plans
And hopes I had for you?
The great career, the splendid fame,
All the wonderful things to do?
Where is the mansion of stately height
With all its gardens rare?
The silken robes that I dreamed for you
And the jewels in your hair?
And as she spoke, I was very sad,
For I wanted her pleased with me,
This slender girl from the shadowy past,
The girl that I used to be.
So gently rising, I took her hand
And guided her up the stairs
Where peacefully sleeping, my babies lay,
Innocent, sweet, and fair.
And I told her that these are my only gems,
And precious they are to me;
That silken robes is my Motherhood
Of costly simplicity.
And my mansion of stately height is love,
And the only career I know
Is serving each day in these sheltered walls
For the dear ones who come and go.
And as I spoke to my shadowy guest,
She smiled through her tears at me.
And I saw the woman that I am now
Pleased the girl I used to be.

Terrible Two's FOR SURE!!!

Lately it's been obvious Dannon has entered into the worst case of the terrible two's we've seen so far. She is the sweetest little booger. We got lots of gum and candy at Christmas time and she took every opportunity available to partake of it.

The funny thing was I DID NOT take these pictures. You see the camera snatcher there in the middle? Yep, it would be Jaycee that took all the proof of Dannon's fun time. I must have been doing some imprtant thing in the other room and only caught the wrappers all over the floor. I'm pretty sure she ate half the pack of gum. I later found out as I was downloading the pictures on the computer that we actually had the proof needed for Dannon's guilty verdict of the gum/candy theif.
Terrible Two's here we are.......and all the other stages are yet to look forward to!!

Nativity

It's about time I wrote about our Christmas...only about a month late!!! Christmas Eve we headed down to Grandma and Grandpa Kohler's house. We had so much fun eating tacos, playing with toys, and visiting with family. We had our first REAL LIVE nativity starring the grandkids.

Joseph: Riley
Mary: Maylie
Shepherd: Jaycee
Angel: Dannon
Wise Men: had to have been the babies, Emery and Bridger
Baby Joseph: a doll

Scott read us the story from Luke. The beautiful story was combined with talking, the singing of Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman, and lots of laughing (I may have laughed a little too hard myself). It was one of the best part of the entire night.

I do have to say the fun didn't end at Grandma and Granpa's house. We drove home for a big surprise to show up!!!! More to come...............
